I wanted to write to share how grateful I am for my weird little apartment building. I live in a brightly painted building that most people recognize and few know. I rented it without ever seeing it (just moved from another city). When I come back from my morning walk/gym sesh, I am comforted by the neighbours in my hallway who are awake and brewing yummy coffee and cooking something sweet-smelling. As I pass each door, my mind goes off into a wonderland of imagining what Martha Stewart situation is happening on the other side. It's a fun way to start my day, and to those neighbours, I thank you. I don't know you all but I like you.

To the coffee shop manager with the tattoos and pony tail: You're just great! You always find a way to brighten up my often-dull days with a smile or secret treat. Big Love!

Not too long ago, I purchased a pair of Ralph Lauren sneakers from Winners in Mic Mac Mall. About half an hour after leaving the mall I noticed the shoes were not with me in my car. I quickly realized my stupidity—I had left them on top of the car and must've driven away with them still on the roof with the receipt inside! I zoomed back to the mall and was looking frantically through the parking lot, in the ditches and went to lost and found in the mall. Nothing.

Made my way to Winners, and lo and behold they were brought back by an older gentleman! You left your business card inside and I wanted to contact you to personally thank you, but when I got home it was nowhere to be found in the bag. What you don't realize is, that was my birthday present I bought for myself with my birthday money, and it was my birthday. Again, THANK YOU!

On a recent Sunday, a man's car ran out of gas in front of Lake Banook. He tried to flag down help to no avail. However a young male runner did stop to help, and with the assistance of another man they pushed the vehicle to a nearby gas station. Kindness abounds and kudos to them!

I was scrunched up, wrestling with the tire gauge and valve stem at the gas station. A young woman walked by and asked "All OK?" She saw from my face I was struggling. She plopped right down and joined in wrestling. I figured she worked there. After some minutes filling the tires and getting weird gauge readings, she said she had one at home. She didn’t work there, she was just walking by! She brought back tools and a good gauge, and we finally got the right amount of air in those recalcitrants. Thank you wonderful person! It WAS the valve stems! Welcome to Halifax, we are so fortunate to have you here. You will be an awesome nurse!

Today I was let go from a terrible job, however I was still an emotional mess. My Macpass fell from my windshield due to the heat and I couldn't find it fast enough. The toll employee was not the most understanding person. But then YOU offered to pay for my toll. Thank you for showing me such kindness on a day when I needed it the most!

Thank you, kind stranger, for picking up my wayward house key and tying it to a light post on Windsor Street the other day! There were only a couple of places it could have been dropped, so I was worried someone had kept it for evil. Thank you <3

What a relief when you came back, after two long weeks. You've created a safe space for myself and so many others, and I want you to know: I see you. I see the love that you all foster here, and am so grateful that I get to be apart of it. Being in a public space and feeling completely at ease wasn't apart of my normal before I came here. Can't wait to see you tomorrow.

Today, a three-year-old showed me the Spiders! exhibit at the museum. This evening, I showed him how to make rainbows with a garden hose. Yesterday, we shared pie at the backyard picnic table and invited every neighbour passing by to join us. Tomorrow, I will continue to love and to be loved. I have found family all around me. So I will wear gifted pink earrings, eat ginger-lemon ice cream and pet all the local cats, and I recommend that anyone feeling a little lost and a lot little do the same.

I've always tipped well for every service in Halifax because I know what it's like out here in the hospitality industry—but my hanger got the best of me at a certain pizza place on Saturday, where I angrily put in a $0 tip because my pickup order had been delayed for an hour due to a glitch in the online order. You didn't deserve that. I'll return for more 'za soon and, this time, leave and doubly good tip. —Hangry, now regretful, gal
