CITY EDITOR
The Coast, Halifax’s 25-year-old media miracle, is looking for a City Editor. This passionate editor/writer will lead Coast current affairs coverage, from obvious news like city council meetings to the good, bad and ugly of under-reported Halifax. This is a permanent, full-time job that starts in May.
We’re looking for an ambitious, detail-oriented journalist with exceptional writing, editing and management skills who can meet the daily challenges of our website while supporting high-quality print work in the weekly paper. This versatile editor will be as comfortable editing a long-form investigative feature as putting together a witty college issue, can manage both people and copy, has a proven ability to multitask and is social media savvy. Our ideal candidate has at least two years’ experience in a newsroom setting and clips that will blow our minds, with the personality to be a cool, flexible and reliable co-worker to a tight-knit and extremely hardworking editorial staff. Applicants with strong opinions, weird ideas, and the ability to balance late nights and early meetings preferred.
To apply, email Coast editor Kyle Shaw at [email protected], with the subject line “City Editor application enclosed.” We’ll need your resume, of course, but more important is your accompanying letter giving evidence for how you fit the requirements above, plus include links/PDFs for three of those mind-blowing clips.
Deadline for applications is Wednesday, April 24. The Coast is an equal opportunity employer, except when it comes to phone calls—please don’t call about this job.
