This is a complex issue obviously and each and every decision will draw criticism. I agree that liability is an issue for the Board which on a number of occasions has forced unnecessary cancellations. Yet our maritime climate is unique in its transitional climate that forces icy and dangerous conditions on roads and sidewalks. Other large cities in both Western and Northern Canada are not so much subject to these conditions.
There should be a strategy devised for delayed openings just as there has been for early closings. Also make up days should be structured into the calendar after a certain number of cancellations. And can online lessons be factored into the issue ?
