A Evening with Illustrator and Storyteller Maira Kalman

When: Fri., Nov. 7, 7:30 p.m. 2014

CANCELLED Atlantic News, Mindful Magazine and The Coast are pleased as punch to present: Maira Kalman is a prolific painter, illustrator, author, designer, performance artist, and more. For Maira, art comes first and the medium follows. She is a frequent contributor to The New Yorker, and is well known for her collaboration with Rick Meyerowitz on the “New Yorkistan” cover in 2001 and “The New York City Sub-Culinary Map.” She recently illustrated Strunk and White’s classic The Elements of Style as well as Michael Pollan’s Food Rules. Maira has written and illustrated Eighteen children’s books, including Ooh-la-la-Max in Love and What Pete Ate. She created two monthly online columns for the New York Times: The Principles of Uncertainty, a narrative journal of her life; and The Pursuit of Happiness, a year-long exploration of American history and democracy. Both are now collected in book form, published by the Penguin Press. Maira has been widely exhibited across North America and internationally and collaborated with composers, choreographers, designers and others to create genre-bending works. She has given numerous talks on a wide variety of subjects, including several TED talks. For the past two years, she has been the backpage artist for Mindful magazine, chronicling her explorations into meditation practices.

This is an all ages event. There will also be a book signing after the event!
