"We try not to play in Halifax too often; only a couple times a year to keep it special," says Dave Scholten, one half of Halifax duo Acres and Acres, who are on the tail end of two years of touring their 2009 debut album All Nations nationally. Special it will be. Scholten and bandmate Kris Pope will be debuting two songs off their in-progress sophomore album. Other than it being studio-recorded (unlike the live All Nations), Scholten can't pinpoint what makes this album different, but he knows his inspiration has changed: "Over the last couple years my wife and I have had a couple kids, and I've also lost some friends, so maybe this album is about new life and death, and how to be in between." Although the untitled album was set to be released this month, fans will have to wait a while longer. In the meantime, you can rush to The Carleton to get a listen of what's to come.
