- Oh dear.
Tyler Perry is somehow supposed to stand in for Morgan Freeman in the catastrophic Alex Cross. Previously played by Freeman in Kiss the Girls and Along Came a Spider, Alex Cross is a Sherlockian detective on the hunt for a sadistic assassin obsessed with experiencing pain. That by-the-numbers case falls aside when the killer, ludicrously and hilariously played by a jacked out Matthew Fox, starts targeting Cross' team. There's so much here to hate, from the stilted dialogue where characters describe each others' motivations, to the saccharine family-time Cross spends with his wife and kids. The greatest train wreck though is watching Perry and Fox “match wits” in their respective roles. One actor deliriously out of his depth, the other making every wrong choice imaginable. Alex Cross is highly enjoyably, if, like Fox's assassin, you get off on pain.
