These two fantastic singer-songwriters can start dreaming about how to spend a giant bag of cash. Amelia Curran's Hunter Hunter and Meaghan Smith's The Cricket's Orchestra impressed critics enough to get them nominated to the long list for the Polaris Prize. And that ain't no easy task: as a juror, I'm on the messageboard, and it takes a lot to win these guys over.

The shortlist, where 40 becomes 10, is announced July 6. And the winner on September 20.

Oh, and if that's not enough, apparently Curran will also be singing for Queen Elizabeth at a garden party at the Governor General's house in Ottawa. That's royally sweet.
