Andrew Hunter and The Gatherers

Warhorses (Bearmusic)

Heavier guitars, a taut rhythm section and elevated song writing make Andrew Hunter and The Gatherers’ LP Warhorses a few tones above the Halifax band’s previous EP. No frills, no shticks and best of all, no over-production. Warhorses showcases musical maturity and a polished dynamic that has helped make this band a local success. While the electric guitar tones are good and heavy, they’re often a little murky and undefined in spots. Still, it’s a well-written record that gives you a window into the range of Hunter’s voice and demonstrates the importance of timing and climax. A solid release.
