This will be Argyle Fine Art’s (1559 Barrington Street) third Christmas on Barrington Street, and its 13th Christmas in the business of bringing great, local art to Halifax.

From paint, to pottery, jewellery to papercraft, the downtown store and gallery keeps its walls and shelves interesting always, and offers special events regularly like this coming Saturday’s (December 14 from 1:30-3:30pm) Artful Saturday. The afternoon will feature the stunning ceramic works of Karolina Anna-Hajna, young Lego jewellery makers the Emma and Liam Travers as well as greeting-card-writing with glass pens made by Janelle Tyler (and free postage from Argyle Fine Art. MAIL FOREVER!!!) Good karma bonus? Shoppers who bring a non-perishable food item with them will receive 25 percent off.

“Running an indie business of any style, teaches you how to think creatively and problem solve without the aid of a big budget but still make a splash,” says Adriana Afford who runs the gallery with Crystal Ross. “People want to not only buy things but support their local community and meet the markers, which they can do here often." Afford and Ross say in the new year they aim to bring even more shopping "experiences", like Artful Saturday, to the gallery.
