Athens moves on | Shoptalk | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Athens Restaurant (6303 Quinpool) has provided Haligonians a little taste of Greece since 1982, the family run and operated business is expanding and moving to 6273 Quinpool, the former location of retro-inspired diner Quincy's.

"We're moving Athens down the street. In all the years we've had the restaurant we've never owned the property," says Evangelos Panopalis. "This was an opportunity we couldn't pass on. We're just fixing things up, painting and changing the decor, waiting on signage and things like that."

According to Panopalis the transition should occur in the next couple of weeks. He hopes to close the restaurant on a Sunday and re-open the new Athens location on the Monday. The new Athens will seat an additional 20 diners, making their capacity much larger and restaurant more spacious. He assures his loyal customers that menu items won't change, as the business has always operated without many bells and whistles and he wants to keep it down to earth.

"We're not giving up the old location either. I'm not sure what exactly, but we're planning on opening another restaurant. Not a Greek restaurant, we have a perfectly good business going, something else. Apparently there are a lot of different rumours, but I'm not sure what we're planning."
