Gold Winner El Jones
Silver Winner Gabriel Enxuga
Bronze Winner Paul Vienneau
El Jones’ term as HRM’s poet laureate may be up, but she hasn’t missed a step in remaining one of Halifax’s foundational voices against social injustice. She was instrumental in bringing attention to the inhuman shackling and deportation of Fliss Cramman, held local media to task for its depictions of North Preston and black Nova Scotians, all while finding the time to appear on CKDU twice weekly, write her blistering Morning Files every Saturday over at the Halifax Examiner and continue to be the province’s strongest voice on prison reform.
