Best Building

St. Mary’s Basilica

The Wharf towers took the award last year, but Halifax’s biggest Catholic church has stolen back the title for 2004. Officially opening its doors in 1899, the Basilica’s beautiful architecture, towering ceilings and impressive stained glass windows have been wowing crowds for more than a century. 1508 Barrington, 423-4116

1st runner-up: Purdy’s Wharf, 1959-1969 Upper Water

2nd runner-up: The Khyber Arts Centre, 1588 Barrington
