“Twenty sixteen was probably our best year yet,” says The Middle Spoon’s Lacey Doherty of the restaurant’s second straight sweet win. She credits word of mouth for keeping the girls nights, date nights and treat seekers coming in for her bar’s dreamy desserts. “People are getting more adventurous, adding cookie dough and other add ons,” says Doherty, who’s worked hands-on with the kitchen to develop recipes and build on old family ones. Cardamom carrot cake, chocolate brownie pie and lemon pavlova are among the Spoon’s delicacies, but she says the peanut butter lava cake is what’s wooed the most diners as of late.
