Tonya Pollard, manager of Tim’s at 1047 Barrington reports business is good. “Our biggest seller is the Boston Crème, followed by the Chocolate Dip,” says Pollard, who manages the second-busiest location in the city, after Young Street. Bakers work around the clock, churning out—and selling—an estimated 44,010 doughnuts every week, at Pollard’s store alone. There is serious job security in doughnut-land: “It may be minimum wage, but with all the cutbacks going on elsewhere, they won’t be happening here.”
