Best Experimental Artist / Band

Gold Winner The Brood

Silver Winner Moonwake

Bronze Winner Norc

The psych-weirdo-rockers and very nice kids The Brood released Transistor, 11 hook-filled tracks that get into your head, a year ago last month. Leader Seamus Erskine, however, can’t quite put his finger on the “experimental” part: “I’m not sure, it’s different?” he says. “We’re trying to write more conventional songs, so I don’t know.” The quartet has played a bunch of Maritime festivals with the intent to “try and play some new places.” (Not new is Truro, where their Nova Scotia Music Week showcase is happening tonight at Belly Up.) “It’s really cool that people actually voted. It’s the second year we’ve won it,” says Erskine. “We’ve got lots of great fans and it’s really encouraging they like it so much.”
