Gold Winner Dee Dee’s Ice Cream
Silver Winner Humani-T Cafe, north end
Bronze Winner Cherry Berry Yogurt Bar, Halifax
Haligonians scream for Dee Dee’s Ice Cream. This north end shop started as a simple shack in Peggys Cove. Thankfully now you can get their creamy scoops of heaven all year round. Co-manager Jessie Wright says that the raspberry passion fruit and Mexican chocolate are popular flavours, but it’s hard to choose because “they’re all delicious.” The handmade in-house ice cream is crafted in a fancy Italian gelato maker with “a lot of care and love,” says Wright. Dee Dee’s makes up to seven nine-litre batches a day in the summer time and the stuff even comes in tubs to-go, so, “there’s always ice cream.”
