Best Record Label

Brobdingnagian Records

Brob-a-ding-dong? Brob-a-ding-dang? Brobdingnagian Records is hard to say but is your top pick for Best Local Label. Run by mover-and-shaker Dennis Stewart, the label released several gems last year including Joel Plaskett’s Down at the Khyber and Britain’s Whispering Bob’s self-titled CD. “I don’t think your readers had any choice!” Stewart exclaims. “My label is number one. This time next year I’ll be the King of Halifax.” He’s got big plans for 2002—appropriate for a label named after the huge inhabitants in Gulliver’s Travels—like gigantic releases from The Heelwalkers, Hopeful Monster, Bodega and a soundtrack collaboration on future Farrelly Brothers movies.
