Best Local Venue

The Marquee Club

This year’s winner for Best Local Venue is the famed Marquee Club. Founded in 1998, the club has been at the core of the live music scene ever since. But in the winter of 2004, the Marquee closed for over a month to overhaul both the building’s interior and the managerial staff. When it reopened, the club hosted a series of high profile shows. Although these included all three of your picks for Best Local Show, the club’s owners have recently decided to close the doors, existing as a for-rent space for the odd show. For the city it’s another unfortunate loss of a venue that had become as famous as many of the bands that played on its stage.
