Best Radio Station For Local Music

Gold Winner CKDU, 88.1 FM

Silver Winner CBC Radio One, 90.5 FM

Bronze Winner Seaside FM, 105.9 FM

“In a word? Challenging.” That’s how program director Francella Fiallos describes the last year at CKDU. Financial set-backs and staff cuts aside, she says thanks to an increase in student engagement, the road ahead is looking promising for the Halifax community radio station and your Best Radio Station For Local Music. “As a campus radio station, that’s kind of our business, to support artists and to help listeners discover the music scene, which has also seen struggles I think,” she says. “We definitely feel we’re in it together, we’re united.” For voters looking to channel their support for CKDU in other ways, Fiallos says the best ways to do so are to become a station sustainer, volunteer and, at the very least, keep listening. “We’re just really grateful people are still thinking about and listening to CKDU—we’re still very surprised and honoured every time we’re recognized like this.”
