The inaugural Best Sandwich honours go to the Italian Market, who squeaked by runner-up Darrell’s. Italian Market’s sandwich strength lies in the amazing array of ingredients, the originality of the specialties (like the Vesuvius) and the fact they’re made right in front of you, the way you want. They’re sandwich artisans, as opposed to sandwich artists. A very informal poll conducted onsite at lunchtime brought forth comments such as, “It’s the bread, the bread’s great,” “Where else can I get this much cheese?” and “Meat, it’s all about the meat.”
Runner-up: Darrell’s, 5576 Fenwick, 492-2344
