Best Female Solo Artist

Amelia Curran

Winning Best Female Solo Artist is exactly what Newfoundland-born chanteuse Amelia Curran wanted to hear. “Encouragement, in whatever form, is the best thing, often times the only thing, to keep you going,” says Curran. “That sounds cheesy, but it’s true, especially now.” The Halifax-based singer-songwriter brings her earnest folk tunes to bars and cafés around town several times a week, both in solo outings and with the ever-expanding outfit of musical misfits, The SenseAmelia Project. She’s playing April’s Month of Mondays at the Marquee and will be filming a video for the song “Talk Things Over” this month.
