Oh Bla Duh was released back in May, but truly burst open once summer hit. Opening song “MRA” is loaded with promise, pulsing out of your car speakers and into your brain, straight through your legs and out as you cannonball into the water. “Kool” has twangy, leaping guitars that lick at your consciousness like the errant flames of a BBQ. The Modest Mouse comparisons aren’t unwarranted---Nigel Tinker’s vocals share Isaac Brock’s snarly tunefulness, especially on songs like “Usually.” At points, both bands could be described as “angular”---but these songs are prettier, friendlier, irresistible. Oh Bla Duh convinces you that you were born with these melodies in your head.
