Billy Talent

Published October 02, 2003.Billy TalentS/T (Atlantic)To paraphrase, if the mall-punk kids embrace Billy Talent it’ll be a welcome improvement. Upon first listen, the record appears to be akin to the pointless screamo Alexison-fire has ridden to popularity. Billy Talent avoids that pitfall by taking melody and aggression and fusing them together perfectly. Their self-titled debut is an unleashed aggression which is raw and genuine, and will hopefully cleanse us of the atrocious mall-punk plague. Maybe if they kill mall-punk, they can do the same to Good Charlotte. —Trevor Savory
