Hey you! Yes, you. Have you heard about the Prismatic Arts Festival? Have you seen the posters? Picked up a brochure? Read an article or two about it?

I'm thinking that maybe, for whatever reason, a lot of you are just hearing about this four-day extravaganza of culturally diverse entertainment offerings (the majority of them FREE) now, because I didn't see you last night at the Alderney Landing Theatre.

Well, I'm here to tell you that you missed something really special. But don't despair, you have a second chance to see M T Space Theatre's astonishingly powerful Body 13  (August 22 at 4:00) and three more chances to experience the riotous fun of Broken English Karaoke.

In Body 13, seven characters, from diverse cultural backgrounds, connect in surprising ways on an ocean beach. As their stories intertwine, objects are lost and found, inhibitions drop like clothing on the sand and the past and future become blurred in the present.

This piece is visually stunning and emotionally impactful, and I was spellbound the stylized movements and by the gorgeous ebb and flow of the storytelling. It explores prejudice in a way that is truly original and refreshing.

Stephanie Yee's Broken English Karaoke is the perfect way to end the evening. She has taken favourite karaoke hits and translated them from English into other languages and back again.  Some of the lyrics are only subtly changed in the process, other transformations are just plain hilarious. It's so much fun to watch the singers perform the mental and linguistic gymnastics required to fit the new words into the old familiar rhythms.

Be forewarned, with so many talented performers in town, the level of this karaoke is markedly elevated. I'm not sure exactly what this installation means, but it's a heck of a lot of fun.
