The hardworking grindcore outfit Burnt Church will be erupting this Friday at Gus' Pub with their debut self-titled EP. The band was originally a two-piece; guitarist/vocalist Mike Parks joined up with Thy Flesh Consumed drummer Gerald Smith last March in the basement of a Fairview jam space. When bassist Tery Morrison of Fredericton's Hard Charger moved to Halifax, he rounded the band out nicely. The threesome have been working diligently around family obligations, other band practices and work schedules ever since.
Parks says they have no intentions of slowing down—-proceeds from the show (including a $15 t-shirt and EP merch package) will go towards a van and the possibility of a Maritime tour later this year. "Honestly, I think this kind of thing gets easier as you get older," Parks says. "I'm much better at doing this now than I was in my '20s." Montrealers will get a chance to go to Church in May when the group plays the Primeval Sounds Festival at the Cafe Chaos co-operative venue on May 8th and 9th.
