i think the intercolonial rail line that runs along the marsh basically created a causeway - blocking the high tides from flooding past it - and into the tantramar marshes.

before that - where the CBC towers reside - it was called coles island. there were many islands along the marsh ways.

also when they created a canal along the missiguash river (still can be seen from google maps) it drained alot of the land as part of a government project.
