Chris Velden moves on

Ryan Duffy's chef opens catering business The Flying Apron Cookery


Ryan Duffy's chef Chris Velden has left the steakhouse and is starting his own operation. With his wife Melissa, Velden is running The Flying Apron Cookery ( from the kitchen at Shining Waters Marina in Tantallon.

The Flying Apron Cookery is a multi service food company providing sustainable food, food education and catering services with a focus on seasonal local product. The Flying Apron offers one-on-one in-home cooking classes, group cooking classes (in-home or corporate) and a six week culinary skill building class. The Veldens produce a weekly changing menu with a full line of pantry staples, everything from Blueberry Maple BBQ sauce to Middle Eastern Pesto and Chocolate Beet Cake.

The Flying Apron Cookery also offers frozen prepared meals. Their products are available via home delivery throughout the HRM or you can find them at the Hubbards and Lunenburg Farmers' Markets.
