CLOUDS

When: May 31-June 21 2013

A storm is coming. Artists put their heads in the Clouds, an exhibit with a majestic view of the skies. Each artist takes a unique spin on the heavenly atmosphere to reveal the beauty of weather. Ivan Murphy paints the sky above the Citadel Hill in “Citadel with Cloud Shadow #2.” The large-scale paintings capture the space of weather on the plains. Peter DiGesu uses space and texture beautifully in “Big Pete’s Offering,” where the large, dark clouds are looming over the peaceful green land. In “Nebraska III,” small fires break out as a fierce storm creeps over the fields. Jonathan Johnson uses his signature landscape aesthetic in “Untitled Sky” and Drew Klassen’s series of paintings “Mediation on a sky by Constable” is a great ode to the fluffy white cloud. The standout work belongs to Ambrea Wellmann. Her intricate, detailed drawings showcase the heavy clouds bellowing out of volcanoes. It makes you feel like visiting a volcano up close. Almost. --Julie Sobowale
