In a time where painters are increasingly looking inward - toward their materials, the medium’s modern history, and the politics of affiliated theory - Dorward takes his practice outside the studio to gather ideas from real-world landscapes of Canadian culture. Recent work has included depictions of Canada’s north, hoarder’s collections and schematic diagrams of the electronic devices that permeate our lives. Diverse subjects, to be sure, but they are all landscapes of our present condition.
