OK, so, three (count 'em) industry screenings I've missed due to some fuck-up down at the Park Lane. The first was Blindness on Wednesday, which, fine, was due to the print not arriving on time. Not much to be done about that. But then Down to The Dirt on Thursday didn't start on time because a juried screening went long in advance for some reason, or the jury was too busy deliberating to get out of the room for us. The poor AFF volunteer sure didn't know, and why should she have? I waited 45 minutes, then gave up.
Then this morning, One Week delayed "30 minutes." Or so I was told when I arrived, also due to some technical hitch that delayed an earlier, juried screening. What... all of these screenings have to take place in a single cinema? Please, Empire Theatres is a sponsor. Don't bogart those rooms!
Maybe the collection of NSCC students encamped on the Park Lane carpet had nothing better to do with their day but wait for the screening to start, but some of us doing this for a living can't spare the time on the back end. Thus, I'll be trying to squeeze in One Week into my plans later in the week when it shows as a gala.
Now, I know what you festival punters are thinking: wah wah, right? But cahmahhhn!
Get it together, people.
