Craig MacDonald knows how to plan a great party for an even better cause. This year he's rallied a huge lineup that'll make for one of the city's best New Year's dance parties, all to help five-year-old Maia Gillis have her biggest wish become a reality. It's the sixth year he's thrown a heartfelt holiday event, inspired by his late mother Sharon, whose brain tumour prevented her from having one last trip with her family. With the mission to help a family enduring the same struggle MacDonald planned his first event for the Children's Wish Foundation, and even after his mother's passing one week before the party, he soldiered on. "I had so much drive and motivation that when mom passed away it only made me stronger to make this event in memory of her," says MacDonald. "Mom installed these morals and values in me: doing something good for someone else." Young Maia who was diagnosed with congenital heart disease at birth dreams of going to Disney World to meet her favourite characters from Cars and Toy Story, a wish you can help make come true as you countdown to midnight, making your own goals for the new year. "Everyone who shows up plays a big part in this event," says MacDonald. –Allison Saunders
