Re: “Stop looking at data and start taking action to make crosswalks safer

Good article. However most of what I hear on the news is about driver responsibility and awareness. Not enough is being done about the pedestrians who walk blindly into the road without looking or while texting or talking on the phone wearing black clothes! It makes me wonder if the council actually drives to or from work in the dark during rush hour to experience this! I have had many close calls and hit one pedestrian a few years ago. It was horrifying. Its not legislation that would fix or prevent that. I couldnt see them! There is also a problem with todays cars that was not there in older vehicles. Airbags. The airbag in the A pillar area next to windshield had made that area much larger and now we have larger blind spots which is not so bad driving straight but turning. Especially at intersections as drivers are turning and watching traffic . If someone crosses at the right time you cannot see them. Especially on a left turn. Just do some research on that topic please. Whatever happened to the advice from our parents to look both ways before crossing the road? Why are so many people walking there dogs in rush hour traffic and not the side streets or parks? Why are they wearing black on dark rainy nights? I think we are going the wrong way . We are giving the pedestrian too much right of way legislation. Basically we are telling them to go ahead walk anywhere anytime and the drivers will pay. We give the kids cellphones to keep them safe but they are texting while driving and walking and its causing more accidents.
