“Debbie Hum,” I wrote last year, “is a likeable councillor, and has a sort of 1970s-style good-government sensibility to her, which is not a bad thing at all, but I wish she’d be more of a presence on council. Mostly, she seems to get into tit-for-tat fights with Linda Mosher.”
What’s changed? Well, the fights with Linda Mosher continue apace, but otherwise Hum seems to have lost her concentration. She’s increasingly disengaged from council debates, and often appears rudderless in a sea of competing values.
It’s a trend that will only deepen as Hum divides her already scattered attention between the upcoming budget debates and her campaign for the legislature.
