Desperate Affection: A comic thriller

When: Fri., Nov. 19, 8 p.m., Nov. 21-24, 8 p.m., Nov. 26-28, 8 p.m. and Sun., Nov. 28, 3 p.m. 2010

I’m a big fan of both the actors in Desperate Affection. No one does outwardly fragile but inwardly sinewy like local actress Pascale Roger-McKeever and Theo Pitsiavis recently wowed me in Neptune’s Father and Sons.  So it pains me to have to say how much I disliked this “comic thriller” by New York playwright Bruce Graham. I found the comic bits were strained and unfunny and as for the thrilling parts, there was not one twist or turn I did not see coming a mile off.  I’m honestly not sure if the fault lies with the direction by Liz Richardson or with Graham’s ridiculous script, or even with the fact that Roger-McKeever seems horribly miscast as a ditzy chatterbox.  But much as I’d like to, I simply can’t recommend this show.
