Discs of the year: Thumb fun

Our videogames critic has an attraction-repulsion thing for the most popular games of the year.

Sean F. Hamilton's high fives

Wii Perfect for families, casual gamers and my parents, the Wii has officially won the Next Gen war. Yet, I can't get past the fact that it still feels like more of a toy than a game. The Wii is the board game of 2008---you pull it out when company drops in.

Grand Theft Auto IV (360/PS3)

Awesome value for your gaming buck that still feels to me like "drive here, do this, drive here do that."

Guitar Hero World Tour (360/PS3/Wii/PS2) While I give it a 10 out of 10, I don't have room for another set of fake instruments in my living room.

Gran Turismo 5: Prologue (PS3) The pinnacle of racing games. But, I will never, ever, pay 40 bucks for a demo.

LittleBigPlanet (PS3) The cutest game in years, LittleBigPlanet sports an amazingly deep-level creator. Sadly, my own laziness supersedes that of the designer.

A curmudgeonly gamer, Sean F. Hamilton has been twiddling his thumbs since the daysof Jumpman.

Videogame cover band NERD ARMY recommends We pick Mega Man because it's old school, affordable, hard as hell and has a wicked soundtrack.
