Disney unravels Tangled

An update on Rapunzel is cute, but no classic.

Though it doesn’t belong in Disney’s canon of classics, this animated update of the Rapunzel fairytale does offer better-than-average family entertainment. Rapunzel (Mandy Moore) has been locked up in a tower for 18 years by a vain old woman who uses the girl’s long blonde mane for its magical anti-aging properties. When cocky thief Flynn (Zachary Levi) hides out in the tower, Rapunzel convinces him to guide her on her first trip into the world below. The pair, hunted by both the law and Rapunzel’s captor, set off on a journey filled with narrow escapes, slapstick violence and forgettable musical moments. The action and goofy visual humour are well-calibrated for kids, and despite the mediocre songs, Tangled is fun to get wrapped up in.
