Don Jon

Directed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Voltage)

Joseph Gordon-Levitt wrote, directed and starred in this film festival favourite. JGL plays Jon, a character who objectifies and consumes everything: church, family, friends and women. Jon does not experience authentic engagement or real love. Everything in Jon's life is a transaction, especially sex, which might explain why he prefers porn to real women. "Nothin' else does it for me the same way–not even real pussy," says Jon. He's an internet porn addict–a super-ripped, dimple-faced, Jersey-boy porn addict. Jon is easy on the eyes and dead inside. Although it's the first feature film where JGL exercises his talent trinity, Don Jon proves that he is a true triple threat. Quick cuts, honest narration and hyper-stylization combine to form an entertaining and relevant film. Caution: make sure you have a tissue or two handy because there's so much porn you might leave a wetspot on your seat.
