There are some intense moments of true horror in the Shakespeare by the Sea/Misery Loves Company collaborative production of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, but it’s also refreshingly funny. The show is stylish and stylized, filled with wonderful physicality and delightful absurdity. Bill Wood and Mary Fay Coady beautifully capture a myriad of characters, economically and humorously creating the sense of bustling city life. Coady also does a lovely turn as a brainy courtesan while Wood plays it straight as Dr. Jekyll’s friend and solicitor. Rhys Bevan-John is brilliant as both the arrogant and tightly-buttoned Jekyll and the dangerously devilish Hyde, and his direct address to the audience on the evil in all of us set heads and heart racing. Don’t miss this enthralling and entertaining journey to the dark side.
