In Dream House
, Daniel Craig plays Will Atenton, a retired book publisher who moves with his family to an idyllic suburb. But during renovations, Craig and his wife (Rachel Weisz) discover that their home was the location of a grizzly homicide five years earlier, which, as his reality begins to unwind, Atenton suspects he may have committed. Dream House
seems to be mostly inspired by The Shining
and Shutter Island
, but can’t compete with the Kubrick and Scorsese pictures due to a predictable story arc that leaves the viewer solving the mystery long before the film ends. In fact, the story of Weisz and Craig falling in love on set offers more entertainment (surprising, considering the pair's lack of on-screen chemistry) than this disappointing thriller.
