To the editor,
With reference to the discussion about changing the name of HRM to Halifax: No matter what you officially call the amalgamated region, people from Dartmouth will still call home Dartmouth, people from Bedford will still say they're from Bedford, and certainly folks in Middle Musquodoboit will not be saying they are from Halifax.
An article in the Chronicle-Herald, September 26, only increased the strength of my opinions. I'm glad to hear some councillors are on my side. Councillor Jim Smith said council needs to hear from people about the idea, so here is my response: How about some extra policing, so we can walk around the Common in the evening, or so we can go to the West End Mall at 6:30pm without being mugged? What about speeding up opening the sewage treatment plant? Perhaps, like the rest of the province, we could have plastic recycling that isn't limited.
I agree with councillor Andrew Younger, who sees a change as very expensive administratively. Our tax dollars could be better spent, so let's use our limited financial resources for the greater good, rather than worrying about semantics.
