Emm Gryner

When Emm Gryner describes her newest album Goddess, she's not sure how to start. "It's not really a go-girls album," she says, after having said it's geared towards other women her age. "It's just really personal. I wanted to make an album that you put on at night and it isn't a pop album that glosses over dealing with life." Goddess' haunting melodies and sometimes angry feel are definitely not glossed-over pop songs, even though the singer---who started her own label when she was 23 and played keys in David Bowie's band a year later---can make that work, too. –Holly Gordon
