So I could have gone to the MuchMusic Video Awards and afterparty tonight, but I can't move. So I'll watch everyone get poured on and hit by lightning from the comfort of our tiny room. Just heard that Wintersleep won best indie video award for "Weighty Ghost." That's swell.

Also this week, the Polaris Music Prize announced their longlist, consisting of the top 40 full-length Canadian records released from June 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008, as selected by the 185 members (including yours truly) of the Polaris Music Prize jury. Wintersleep made the cut, as did Buck 65 and Two Hours Traffic. I can't tell you too much about it (if I reveal any secrets I'll get beaten with a pair of skinny jeans), but I have to say that I think it's a really solid list that really represents an impressive cross-section of Canadian music. So now we go back and vote again, and the top-10 shortlist will be announced on July 7.
