Fast & Furious 6

Possibly the most consistent American fantasy film franchise comes roaring back into theatres with Fast & Furious 6. Getting a little too old for this shit, F&F6 finds Vin Diesel's Dominic Toretto bringing his crew of superhumanly gifted car thieves out of retirement to rescue ex-girlfriend and previously dead Michelle Rodriguez from a dangerous, international car terrorist. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, MMA fighter Gina Carano and Ludacris also star, quite gloriously. Half a dozen entries in, 6 jury-rigs itself together from the standard F&F elements: ludicrously fancy cars, ridiculous one-liners and fast races usually ending in explosions. It's to repeat director Justin Lin's credit that those insanely stupid pieces work so marvelously in tandem. A finale featuring six different fights taking place across four vehicles is wondrous on purely a mechanical level. Fast & Furious 6 is a custom build out of stock parts, but it handles itself well on the curves. —Jacob Boon
