- Everyone reacts differently to the music on Brass on Board semi-surprise concerts.
"I'd heard about theatrical performances on the ferry, and I thought it would be fun to surprise people with a mini-concert," says Paul St-Amand, trumpet player and co-founder of the Bedford Brass Quintet, who submitted his idea on a whim to the Awesome Foundation and won a grant. So, hop on the Alderney Ferry this Sunday (or Aug 18, 2-4pm) and the quintet will get you on board with its special kind of brass---a mix of jazz standards, something for the kids and pop...maybe even a little Lady Gaga. "With each crossing, we get a new audience that reacts a bit differently to the music. Sometimes it's polite applause. Sometimes it's rowdy cheering... But the vast majority of folks seemed kind of stunned to see us there," he says. "That's the fun part for us, winning people over to brass music."
