Groovy garden gathering

Ben Caplan and the Casual Smokers team up with It Kills, Long Long Long and Bad Vibrations to jam in the name of community gardens.

This Friday night gives you a chance to hear some great local musicians while supporting community gardening in the city. Bands Ben Caplan and the Casual Smokers, It Kills, Long Long Long and Bad Vibrations will jam while you celebrate local food, take part in a kale-eating competition, bob for radishes---whatever floats your, erm, vegetable. "I strongly believe in the social and environmental benefits of gardening, and in the social and environmental benefits of community," says Caplan, who'll have one of his Casual Smokers (Marc Blouin) with him at the garden party for a stripped-down show of guitar, banjo, cello, clarinet and saxophone. "Community gardens just make sense. Let's come together and help things grow." All proceeds go to community gardens in the HRM, but if you can't pay the five bones to get in you'll be welcome anyway.
