Gypsophilia Dance for 2b Theatre Company

When: Fri., Feb. 19, 9 p.m. 2010

It's 2b theatre's 10th anniversary, and the start of their international tour, so co-artistic directors Anthony Black and Christian Barry are throwing a fundraising dance party with gypsy-jazz band Gypsophilia to keep your spirits (and feet!) up high. "I feel proud," says Black, of the company's decade of age. "When we started 2b we were students, and we wanted to make our own projects and we wanted to make them here in Nova Scotia, and the prospects of having a company that was going to sustain us professionally were not high." Fast forward to 2010 and you'll find Black and Barry touring internationally, writing grants to get their first playwright-in-residence (Hannah Moscovitch, who wrote 2b's East of Berlin) and writing work of their own. That's a lot to celebrate, is it not? Expect a cash bar, free popcorn and a confirmed rumour that comedian Bill Woods will make his way over as soon as he's finished Picnicface's CBC studio recording. If you're already booked, Black says to join them afterwards as the party's going straight through to midnight. –Holly Gordon
