Lat week we discussed the exciting restaurant scene that’s unfolding along Agricola Street near North Street. Now comes word of another new offering just a couple of blocks south at 2389 Agricola Street, between Harris and West Streets, where Victor Fineberg, is opening the Hali Deli Old World Delicatessen “in about three weeks.”. The deli will be in the space occupied by Cousins, which we’ve always eyed as the perfect spot for a north end dive bar, but we’re not complaining: a deli two blocks from The Coast office? Bring it on. Readers will remember Fineberg from Victor’s Bar and Grill on Spring Garden Road, which closed last year.

Fineberg says he and his wife, Sybil Fineberg will be operating the deli, which he describes as “not a sandwich shop that sells smoked meat, but a New York- or Montreal-style delicatessen, with sit down service.” He’ll be smoking meat on site, and is looking for a good source of rye bread: “with smoked wheat sandwiches, the bread is as important as the meat,” he says.

“We expect breakfast to be big,” adds Fineberg. “And it won’t be expensive. Our most expensive dinner plate will be about $13.” Hours will be 8am-7 or 7:30pm, Tuesday, through Sunday.
