Hard Candy | Arts & Culture | Halifax, Nova Scotia | THE COAST

Tricky at the best of times with a full cast of stellar players to present a broad comedy that relies heavily on lightning speed, big, big character acting and crisp, well-timed stage business. Perhaps a well-known comparable example of this type of play is Noises Off. Hard Candy (not a theatrical version of the movie by the same title) is billed as "a hilarious take on modern job interviews and what it takes to get the job". Seven actors portray 11 job applicants, none truly qualified, in this one idea farce. Bothersome is that a few of the cast have had previous acting training and experience and these assets last night unmercifully showed up the lesser skill sets of the other players. No doubt the performers will up the requisite fast pace the piece demands and widen their comedic acting as Hard Candy's run goes on. From scatterings of laughter let loose throughout the play last night, the house definitely enjoyed what they saw.

Hard Candy can be seen at the Khyber 3 Saturday Sept 1 at 9, Sundat Sept 2 at 7:30, Monday Sept 3 at 4:15, Wednesday Sept 5 at 6:30, Thursday Sept 6 at 8, Saturday Sept 8 at 8 and Sunday September 9 at 2:30
