Heavy Trash is Blues Explosion frontman Jon Spencer and Matt Verta-Ray of Speedball Baby. And Heavy Trash will kick your ass. Not necessarily in a raunchy, Blues Explosion-crazy-fucked-up-shit deconstructionist kinda way. But it will kick your ass nonetheless with its mess of roots-fired rockabilly that is an ode to tube amps, hollow-body guitars and analogue heaven. And it’s Spencer’s unmistakable wail that is front and centre, giving these numbers a sweaty, staggering swagger. Some might call “You Can’t Win” a four-minute aphrodisiac. But it is “I Want Oblivion” and “Way Out” and “I Want Refuge” that really kick this into high gear.
