High School Reunion: The Musical

When: June 25-Nov. 14 2009

Halifax Feast Dinner Theatre has covered a lot of musical bases with their present production High School Reunion. Its high-energy presentation of highlights from six decades worth of popular music is interwoven with a storyline revolving around a cast of high school stereotypes who reunite every ten years—the slutty cheerleader, the over-achieving brown-noser , the painfully awkward geek—you get the picture. The presentation is both slick (cool costume changes and well-practised patter and food service) and hokey (over-the-top acting and a sophomoric but funny script) at the same time. This proves to be a pretty entertaining combination. Among the things that really stood out are: a highly amusing version of “Can’t Touch This”, the terrific voice of Ben Shaw who plays the laid-back druggy, and the comedy stylings of the love-sick gym teacher, played by Josh Kogon.---Kate Watson
